SMTP authentication for Outlook Express 5.0, 6.0 and 2000 on Microsoft Windows

Outlook Express 5.0, 6.0 and 2000 for Windows requires the following changes to be made in order for you to use SMTP authentication:

  1. Run the mail application, go under the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  2. Select the e-mail account and click on Properties
  3. Click on the Servers tab.
  4. Change Outgoing Mail (SMTP) to: REMOTESMTP.WYITH.NET
  5. Ensure that Log on using Secure Password Authentication is unchecked.
  6. Under Outgoing Mail Server, ensure that My server requires authentication is checked.
  7. Click on the Settings button.
  8. Ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is NOT selected and please type in your SMTP username/password
  9. Click on the Advanced tab.
  10. Ensure that Outgoing Mail (SMTP) is set to 5190 or 3389
  11. Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP), ensure that This server requires a secure connection (SSL) is NOT checked
  12. Click OK
